SMS Text Messages
for Students

OVERVIEW:
The FSU ALERT emergency notification system utilizes multiple delivery methods. One is SMS Text Messages to your cell phone.

ELIGIBILITY:
Your cell phone must be capable of receiving SMS Text Messages.

COST:
There is no fee by FSU to send you FSU ALERT Text Messages. However, you may be subject to service fees by your cell phone carrier to receive them. Fees vary depending on your service plan. You are responsible for any costs associated with receipt of FSU ALERT Text Messages. Contact your carrier for details.

SUBSCRIPTION DATABASE MANAGEMENT:
FSU manages all of its FSU ALERT Text Message subscriptions for students via Blackboard. This is the ONLY way to subscribe, change, or unsubscribe from this service. Any other methods (e.g. replying with the word "stop", calling our vendor) will NOT work. The number will be automatically replaced each morning at 5:00AM.

TO SUBSCRIBE:

1. Log into Blackboard.
2. Go to "Secure Apps" tab on the top right.
3. Accept the Secure Applications Policy, if it appears.
4. Select "Register for Classes"
5. The screen will display "Your Cell Phone Emergency Contact Number"
6. Click [edit]
7. Enter your cell phone number.
8. Click Submit.
9. Verify the information on the next screen. Click [edit] and repeat if necessary.

TO CHANGE YOUR NUMBER:

1. Log into Blackboard.
2. Go to "Secure Apps" tab on the top right.
3. Accept the Secure Applications Policy, if it appears.
4. Select "Register for Classes"
5. The screen will display "Your Cell Phone Emergency Contact Number"
6. Click [edit]
7. Change your cell phone number.
8. Click Submit.
9. Verify the information on the next screen. Click [edit] and repeat if necessary.

TO UNSUBSCRIBE:

1. Log into Blackboard.
2. Go to "Secure Apps" tab on the top right.
3. Accept the Secure Applications Policy, if it appears.
4. Select "Register for Classes"
5. The screen will display "Your Cell Phone Emergency Contact Number"
6. Click [edit]
7. Delete your cell phone number.
8. Check the box next to "I do not have a cell phone or choose not to provide it."
9. Click Submit.
10. Verify the information on the next screen. Click [edit] and repeat if necessary.
